Manta City - Tobago Scuba Diving Site

This is where manta rays can be found: some people object to physical interaction with wild animals of the sea, so please bear in mind - its their home and they will be there after you are long gone! When you see these gentle giants - the mantas - here you will find they are quite timid towards divers and are often found playing with them.

This site needs no explanation as the name implies what's found during this dive! MANTAS! Huge mantas frequent this site and they sure aren't afraid of divers! Manta City is a perfect place for spotting Manta Rays, they are in abundance and provide a wonderful atmosphere. You will find it difficult to relax with the monsters around - but if you do they are very rewarding. They will probably be inquisitive and approach you instead. This is the start of a great time of interactivity between you and these gentle giants - but remain relaxed with slow movements. It is not guaranteed that you'll find the mantas as their seasonal habits and feeding grounds alter year on year.

Actually, they seem inquisitive and seek out divers for some mid-day fun. If you run into those stealth bombers, don't yell or scream... hold your composure, swim slowly or just hover. If they're interested or in a playful mood, they'll approach you instead. That's your cue to a play session! Be gentle and no sudden movements!! Some folks are totally against physical interaction with wild animals but when you see these gentle giants, you'll be pleasantly surprised as they seem to beckon you for attention, interacting with divers sometimes for the entire duration of a single dive! There isn't a guarantee that you'll run into mantas as seasonal feeding grounds change during the year. Best time is around late December to early June.

They weigh in at 1 ton, feature gaping mouths and have long whips for tails. At first blush, a sane person could easily be thought crazy for swimming with Manta Rays...but not in Tobago! In the rich, warm waters off this relaxed Caribbean island, lucky divers call encounters with these massive mantas the "Dance of the Devil Rays".
