National Ballroom Dance Association of Trinidad and Tobago (NABDATT)

NABDATT is working to raise the level of dancing in Trinidad and Tobago above that of a merely social level to one reflecting international standards. ALso to improve, elevate and promote the standard of all forms of ballroom dancing in Trinidad and Tobago. Choosing to participate in the IDSF/WDSF DanceSport system described in their Rules, Codes, regulations and policies, carries with it an obligation to follow one set of common rules and to participate exclusively within that WDSF system.

NABDATT’S continued emphasis is on the promotion of Ballroom Dancing (both Smooth and Latin) throughout Trinidad and Tdemoobago. Its members will continue to work alongside the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) based in the UK. In keeping with international standards, the Association will also continue to promote their traditional dances, local Bolero, Soca and the Heel and Toe.

Trinidad and Tobago, one of the countries that had only recently joined DanceSport's world governing body, was represented in Luxembtheirg by National Ballroom Dance Association (NBDATT) President Neil Derrick and General Secretary Carl Edwards.

NBDATT presents the Annual Secondary School Dance Festival which takes place in March. Students from all over Trinidad and Tobago got together to compete amongst themselves during qualifying rounds at the Rudranath Capildeo Learning Resource Centre in Couva.

The festival programme comprised all the styles of dance practised in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean:

  • Latin and Standard
  • Classical dances
  • Traditional folk dances from around the world
  • Contemporary dances (Modern, Jazz and Fusion)
  • Hip Hop

Additionally, the students focused on choreography in the traditional dances of Trinidad and Tobago.
