The Naparima Bowl Cultural Centre and Auditorium

The establishment of the Naparima Bowl Cultural Centre at the present site fits in the framework of the recreation of a cultural focal point in one of San Fernando’s most treasured places. This site is viewed as one of the major focal points in the development of the City of San Fernando.

To help you fulfill your cultural needs during a visit to San Fernando Trinidad, you can complement trips to the library with shows at the Naparima Bowl, which is the main San Fernando performing arts center. Various concerts, exhibitions, cultural shows, and music and art festivals take place at the Naparima Bowl, and it’s always worth seeing what’s on the schedule when you’re in town. Renovated after a 1977 fire and reopened to the public in 1990, the Naparima Bowl is air-conditioned and boasts an ample, 40-foot wide stage.

The existing site consists of 1.344 hectares with appropriate dimensions of 165.3m in the east-west direction and an average of 75m in the north south direction with a northern neck forming the entrance access off Lady Hailes Avenue. Approximately half of the site is relatively flat with the western side rising sharply into the hill. The auditorium and outdoor amphitheatre are built into the hill on this side, hence the nomenclature of the Bowl. The Bowl is known for its hosting of educational and cultural programmes.

The main building in the Naparima Bowl houses the auditorium, the stage, the control room and the flytower. The theatre lighting system is functional and is constantly being upgraded (this over the past five years .

The dressing rooms are housed in the wing which runs east-west as an adjunct to the auditorium. A public bar is based at the eastern end of the wing. This bar is adjacent to an open air patio to the north where another bar is located at the eastern edge of the paved patio space.

The open areas on the site are pleasantly planted with several mature trees which offer shade for the parking areas. There are three paved vehicular driveways. All the driveways can be resurfaced if retained in the major redevelopment to come.
